LET IT SNOW

Well, I'm finally back in town for more than a few days at a time. I spent the weekend skiing in Tahoe and the trip was pretty darn good. Of course, I'm a glutton for punishmentpain for even attempting to ski on this bum toe of mine but I think it was worth it, despite having to change bloody bandages every night. The conditions on Friday were just perfect. It was a balmy 50 degrees with a clear blue sky. My only regret was not having brought my ski vest, just my jacket. I was peeling off layers of clothing before lunch. Unfortunately, I neglected to get my skiis waxed and tuned before I left but I still managed okay, all things considered. My ski skills seem to be a bit stagnant (or maybe it's my inner scaredy cat) because I'm still not skiing black diamond so I think I might take a lesson or two the next time I go skiing.

Though Friday was glorious (first ski day of the year for me), Saturday was another story... Snow, snow, and more snow is what we got. While I definitely appreciate fresh powder, I DON'T appreciate wet, cold snow blowing onto my face at 25 mph. I had to pull out the googles and face mask. To say we had poor visibility would be an understatement. Due to all the powder and the plethora of people on the mountain, the slopes were pretty cut up. Moguls (bumps) were everywhere but I couldn't see them well due to the blizzard-like conditions. You're supposed to ski around/between the moguls but I swear, I hit every single one dead on. Needless to say, my knees had taken a beating by the time the day was over. It was all I could do to take off my boots and curl up on the bed whimpering, I'm too young to feel this old.

Sunday wasn't quite as snowy but still not the best weather. I watched jezchill race that morning and I was the ONLY spectator due to the less than optimal conditions. There's nothing like traipsing through knee-deep snow while carrying skiis and poles. I had to clear off over a foot of snow just to be able to sit on the bleachers. It was a pleasant surprise to hear the announcer say over the PA that jezchill had dedicated his race to me. After having lunch in the lodge, we headed back out to the slopes. To my dismay, almost all the blue runs were filled with moguls. I managed to navigate them a bit better though and even ran into an old friend (not literally) on the slopes. All in all, it was a good trip but it's nice to sleep in my own bed again.
