GOOD TIMES!
part one
part one
Let me just say that my coworker is a GENIUS! I gave him my memory card on Monday and today he brought me a CD of my Europe pictures. He said the FAT was corrupted but he was able to recover most of the pics. I'm going to have to buy him lunch or something. That said, let me tell you about our trip.
We flew out Friday night and landed about 10am local time in Zurich. From there, we had a ~3 hour bus ride to St. Moritz. Everyone was pretty tired and jet lagged so we just hung out at the hotel that night. We got a warm welcome from the hotel staff and the local tourism board. They had a welcome mixer for us and told us a little about the region and the various tours that would be available to us.
We were up bright and early on Sunday morning to hit the slopes. It was like heaven. Because it was the end of the season, hardly anyone was there. We pretty much had the mountain to ourselves. The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky. I skiied the best I've ever skiied. I was so hyped you would have thought I was in the Olympics. I kept having to resist the urge to scream in delight. I confess that there were a few times that my exuberance got the best of me though. I hope the Swiss don't think Americans are crazy now. LOL. It got pretty warm by lunch so the snow got slushy and we called it a day. What I loved about our village was that a lift ticket enabled you to ride the bus for free so that was nice.
While I loved the fact that the hotel included full board (breakfast and dinner) in the price of your room, let me tell you about said room. Here in the States, if you ask for a double room you get a room with two double- or queen-sized beds. If you ask for a single room, you get a room with a queen- or king-sized bed. Well in Switzerland, a double gets you a room with two TWIN beds and a single gets you a room with TWO TWIN BEDS PUSHED TOGETHER. And I'm talking platform beds - you know the kind with no boxspring, just a wood frame and a thin mattress. Apparently the Swiss don't like sheets either cause the beds only have a bottom sheet and a duvet. Warm down duvet plus radiator heat that can't be turned off equals waking up sweaty. Ugh.
Moving on, Sunday night there was a comedy show at the hotel. Two comedians were flown in, just for us. The first guy was marginally funny but the second guy did a really good job. I felt a bit bad when he started cracking on the Swiss people at the hotel though. Hopefully they realized it was all in good humor. I have to say I DO find the way they can't pronounce "th" amusing. Stayed tuned for the rest of the story.
